You’re right about Gary V’s charisma. The other keynote sounds very inspiring as well. I will look for video of that.

Oops, I just realized you were blogging about Gary's talk in Sept. 2008. He JUST gave another keynote in Las Vegas on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009. And the WL hack happened just recently.

You are spot-on with Gary V. He has transformed the retail wine business and is as tireless as he is charismatic. And he is a genuine wine lover. Just 30 seconds of any winelibrarytv episode demonstrates that. http://tv.winelibrary.com/about/
Taken as a whole, I would attribute much of his success to that charisma, not just the social-media and internet smarts, which he obviously has (did he mention in the address that a week or so back his whole computer system at Wine Library was hacked and he navigated the recovery with honesty, addressing customers about it via twitter and the site?). And he is fortunate that his product - wine - is a great fit for web video.

As a "recovering wine critic" turned speaker, my only quibble with Gary is that I think he sells his own palate short by constantly harping on Wine Spectator and Robert Parker ratings. I have confronted him about this, and fully believe he will be even more transformational in the wine business if/when he decides to shift away from the 90-point nonsense.
